Thanksgiving is just around the corner and the city's Office of Public Health and Safety is stepping up to ensure families have enough to eat. With three more food giveaways scheduled this month, it's clear that the community's needs are being addressed.

New Day Pentecostal Church's Food Pantry
Every year, New Day Pentecostal Church distributes 200 baskets filled with a variety of Thanksgiving essentials. As First Lady Michelle Montgomery mentioned, these baskets include turkeys, corn, green beans, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, cake mix, frosting, and cranberry sauce. It's a significant gesture that helps families get a good start to their holiday meals. Their ministry's mission of "love God, love people" is truly fulfilled through these efforts.This church, located in Haughville on the west side of Indianapolis, hopes to bridge the gap in the community. As Artie Montgomery said, being a part of the community and providing help is a blessing. One woman who picked up a meal for her friend, who had lost a daughter, emphasized how the food was exactly what her friend needed at that time.Christ Church Apostolic's Partnership
Located on the north side, Christ Church Apostolic partnered with the city of Indianapolis to feed 95 people. Associate Pastor Karen Perkins made it clear that their church is not just about church services but also about meeting the community's needs. In this food desert area, they are dedicated to making sure families are taken care of and well fed. On Monday, two more food distribution events will take place. One will be at the Lawrence Police Department from 3 to 5 p.m., and the second will be at the Stanley Strader Park Family Center from 4 to 6 p.m. Additionally, on Nov. 27, the final OPHS giveaway is scheduled for noon to 3 p.m. at Breeding Tabernacle CME Church.
