Unlock the Secrets of NYT Connections with Our Hints and Answers!

How To Play Connections

Connections is a fabulous, free daily word game available on the NYT website or Games app. Every day at midnight, a new puzzle awaits. Your mission is to arrange the 16 words in a grid into four groups of four by identifying the links between them. These links can be various things like items you can click, names for research study participants, or words preceded by a body part. There's only one correct solution for each puzzle, so be cautious as some words might fit into multiple categories. You can shuffle the words to aid in spotting the connections. Each group is color-coded. The yellow group is typically the easiest to figure out, followed by the blue and green groups in the middle, and the purple group is usually the most challenging as it often involves wordplay. Select four words you think belong together and press Submit. If your guess is incorrect, you'll lose a life. If you're close to having a correct group, you might receive a message indicating that you're one word away from getting it right, but you still need to determine which word to swap. If you make four mistakes, it's game over. Let's use some hints and, if needed, today's Connections answers to avoid that. Just like with Wordle and other similar games, it's easy to share your results with friends on social media and group chats. If you have an NYT All Access or Games subscription, you can access the Connections archive, which includes every previous game. You can go back and play any of the missed games by simply clicking here and adding the date of the game for which you need clues or answers to the search query.

What Are Today’s Connections Answers?

Spoiler alert! Don't scroll any further down the page until you're ready to find out today's Connections answers. This is your final warning!Today's Connections answers are…Yellow group — careen (HEAVE, LURCH, PITCH, REEL).Green group — what a noun might be (IDEA, PERSON, PLACE, THING).Blue group — electronic dance music genres (AMBIENT, HOUSE, JUNGLE, TRANCE).Purple group — words after “ash” (BLOND, TRAY, TREE, WEDNESDAY).I barely managed to extend my streak to three wins. Here's how I did:My initial thought was that there might be a group of characters from The Addams Family. But I couldn't immediately find anything else to go with LURCH, WEDNESDAY, and THING.It took me a while to notice anything else that made sense (thanks to my head cold!). But finally, I saw a connection between TRANCE and JUNGLE for the blues.Nothing else was coming together, so, uh, I took a break to play a video game, hoping to come back with a fresh perspective. Maybe I care a bit too much about my Connections streak.Perhaps PITCH, HEAVE, PLACE, and LURCH? They all seem to be verbs. But no, I was one word away. Removing LURCH and replacing it with REEL still left me one word short. But switching to TRAY (I don't know why) was a step in the wrong direction. Eventually, I got the yellows, though.I had one life left to get the greens and purples. It was crunch time. At least the Addams Family idea was out of the equation with LURCH already used.Thankfully, it only took a few seconds to spot the greens on the smaller grid. There aren't many things that go with WEDNESDAY, so the purple connection then became clear (I did struggle to find a good clue for it, though). One thing to note, if I may. A noun is essentially a THING, so the green group doesn't quite work perfectly. Using a different word would have eliminated the Addams Family red herring, so I understand why it's here.Okay, it's time for a nap. That's all for today's Connections clues and answers. Be sure to check my blog for hints and the solution for Monday's game if you need them.P.S. I did recommend a few songs from the amazing Northern Irish rock band Ash (arguably a pop band with loud guitars) when I was doing my “British bands I listened to a lot while growing up” thing in the spring. Feel free to follow my blog for more coverage of Connections and other word games, as well as some video game news, insights, and analysis. It really helps me out a lot!
